Providence, KY – David Higgins, PhD, LPCC-S, NCC, CMHIMP has recently completed an extensive training program through the Mental Health Integrative Medicine Institute and now holds a certificate as a Mental Health Integrative Medicine Certified Provider. The certification permits him to suggest food, movement, and lifestyle choices that can be implemented as part of counseling to improve mental health. The certification also focuses on treating individuals from a holistic approach, which is, working with individuals taking in consideration the multiple dimensions of human experience; the psychological, physical, spiritual, and sense of community. Through evidence-based approaches, interventions will be suggested that are natural, while not rejecting conventional medicine practices in treating disorders. Anxiety, mood disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder are among the conditions that can be
addressed through a holistic approach.
Higgins joined Health First Community Health Center in 2013 as a Therapist/Behavior Specialist. He earned his doctorate degree with a specialization in counselor education from the University of the Cumberlands and earned his Master’s degree in mental health counseling from Western Kentucky University. He is a Kentucky Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and an approved clinical supervisor. He is also recognized as a National Certified Counselor. In addition to his services at Health First, he is a faculty member at the University of the Cumberlands.
