PROVIDENCE, KY — Health First Community Health Center is pleased to announce that Emma Buchanan, Family Nurse Practitioner, was selected by the Kentucky Office of Rural Health as an awardee for the Kentucky State Loan Repayment Program. For the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the KSLRP will competitively award a total of up to $300,000 to be allocated to 13 participants. Over 50 health professionals applied for funding opportunities, which is a record number for the KSLRP. Buchanan was one of the elite individuals selected this year and will receive $40,000 towards loan repayment.
The Kentucky State Loan Repayment Program is a 50/50 matching program that increases availability of primary health care services through repayment of education loans to eligible health professionals practicing in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA). Applicants to the program are required to sign a 2 year commitment to practice with the eligible site. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to providing health care services to rural and/or underserved populations through documented experience and statement of intent.
Buchanan joined Health First in June, after graduating from Tennessee State University in May. She has gained quite a following during her short tenure with the organization, as she has a winning personality and provides quality, evidence based care to patients.
A contract signing will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 3:00 PM at Health First Community Health Center located at 215 E. Main St. in Providence. KORH representative Jennifer Wilson will be on site, along with Buchanan and other members of the Health First staff.
