EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma required along with a Certified Professional Coder certificate.  Two years of related experience preferred with proven ability to communicate and teach/train staff on coding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review and assign accurate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures and services performed by physicians and other qualified health care providers
• Ensure correct usage of modifier add-on codes and place of service codes
• Ensure ABN’s are used correctly
• Assist with updating yearly changes to ICD, CPT and HCPCS codes
• Assist billing staff with claim issues
• Investigate rejected claims specific to coding issues
• Assist with coding training from medical providers and staff
• Assist with medical credentialing
• Assist with preparing and review patient statements
• Maintain strict confidentiality
• Ensure health care facilities are reimbursed for all procedures
• Investigate insurance fraud and report if found
• Understand patient accounts
• Work with Outreach and understand Sliding Fee Scale
• Assist front end staff with insurance questions and patient bills
• Complete Good Faith Estimates for the organization
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
