April 10, 2017

OWENSBORO, KY — Health First Community Health Center is pleased to announce that Robin Marrero, Family Nurse Practitioner, was selected by the Kentucky Office of Rural Health as an awardee for the Kentucky State Loan Repayment Program. For the 2016-2017 fiscal year, the KSLRP will competitively award a total of up to $300,000 to be allocated to 13 participants. Over 50 health professionals applied for funding opportunities, which is a record number for the KSLRP. Buchanan was one of the elite individuals selected this year and to receive funding towards loan repayment.

The Kentucky State Loan Repayment Program is a 50/50 matching program that increases availability of primary health care services through repayment of education loans to eligible health professionals practicing in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA). Applicants to the program are required to sign a 2 year commitment to practice with the eligible site. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to providing health care services to rural and/or underserved populations through documented experience and statement of intent.

Marrero joined Health First in January of 2016. She graduated from Graceland University with a Master’s of Science in Nursing in 2014. She earned her board certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Marrero relocated to Owensboro from Bowling Green.

A contract signing was held on Tuesday, April 11th at the Neel Clinic located at 2816 Veach Rd. in Owensboro. KORH representatives Ernie Scott and Jennifer Wilson were on site, along with Marrero and other members of the Health First staff.
